Meet Meara: Shaping Solutions for Stronger Communities

Meara (MARE-uh) Levezow

Project Manager

As a project manager, Meara is in charge of the big picture, leading the charge of planning, organizing, and administering the day-to-day operations of complex projects. She also directs the research efforts on her projects and is an experienced facilitator of focus groups, interviews, and community engagement events. She works primarily on projects concerning public health communications, with a particular interest in overdose awareness, prevention, and treatment.

“I’m able to combine the organizational skills and precision needed for consulting with the person-centered, holistic lens I gained as an MSW.

Meara’s journey to working at Reach began as a graduate student in New York City studying social work with a macro focus, specializing in social welfare policy and community engagement. As a public interest firm, Reach was the perfect place for Meara to combine her  lifelong passion for social justice with her organizational and analytical skills.

She was initially drawn to the company after reading about their ground-breaking program doing door-to-door outreach in neighborhoods disproportionately affected by drug overdose, the Canvass to Save Lives. After being hired she had the opportunity to lead this program during its 4th year, managing a team of peer recovery specialists who shared their overdose prevention and treatment expertise with communities, one house at a time.

She has also had the opportunity to lead the community engagement effort for the City of Providence’s effort to equitably allocate federal Rescue Plan dollars, raise awareness of the indispensable role Community Health Workers play in the RI healthcare ecosystem, and manage a communications project for the RI Department of Health about the dangers of counterfeit pills.

A Bit More About Meara

Born and raised in the small town of Sheboygan, WI, Meara moved to NYC after college and lived there for 16 years before settling in Providence with her wife and 2 cats. She spent her time in the city immersed in the arts, eventually becoming a poet. She continues to write and publish poetry regularly, and when she’s not working, can be found at a museum, attending the theater, or hitting a poetry reading or book club at the Providence Athenaeum.

Why Meara Loves Working at Reach

“When people feel appreciated and empowered to use their creativity and initiative, the results often exceed expectations.”

Meara loves working at Reach because the company is deeply committed to projects that make a meaningful impact, particularly for historically marginalized communities in Rhode Island. Reach also fosters a work environment where employees are valued, understanding that a well-supported team benefits not just the staff, but the clients as well. When people feel appreciated and empowered to use their creativity and initiative, the results often exceed expectations.
